Frequently Asked Questions

Who are you?
Urban Feline Australia is a newly established cat rescue service, run by one passionate individual with the help of friends and volunteers, that is dedicated to keeping cats out of kill shelters and helping them find loving forever homes. Urban Feline Australia is not a large company with government resources, a large facility and a lot of staff. Our tiny rescue is a one man operation run from the safety of our own home. We do this for the love of animals and our only agenda is to save as many cats as we can.
Where do your cats come from?
We specialize in helping "surrenders" which are cats that have lived with people previously but for one reason or another their owners are unfortunately no longer able to look after them. Owners who reach out to us go onto a waiting list and as soon as we have space we take their pets into our amazing cat sanctuary where they're treated with love and affection until the right forever home is found.

Do you take all cats?
As a tiny one man rescue with very limited resources and limited space, we’re only in a position to accept cats that have been desexed, microchipped and vaccinated in the past 12 months, for their own protection. If your cat is not up to date with it’s vet work this will need to be completed before we can accept them.
I found a kitten. Can you help?
Unfortunately we are not in a position to accept stray kittens as we do not have the space and resources to quarantine them from the other cats in our care and give them the best chance at a great life. We can however provide you with a list of other rescues that we know of who may be able to assist. Once kittens have been vaccinated we can accept them but not until this is done for their own protection.

What if the cat we adopt isn't a good fit?
We work hard to match the right cat to the right home but in the unlikely event this is not successful, all adoptions have a 21 day cooling off period. We just ask that you please give us 72 hours to make sure we have a suitable foster home available before you bring the cat back.
What if you can't find my cat a new home?
Everyone finds a new home. No matter how long it takes. Our rescue service exists specifically to make sure that cats don't end up in cages or worse. We will persevere no matter how long it takes. We have a 100% success rate.

What do I do if I find a stray cat?
Try to reunite them with their owner. Not every stray is a stray. Often these cats have run away from home and their owners are looking for them. Knock on your neighbors doors and post in community noticeboard Facebook groups to see if you can reunite the cat with their owner. If the cat is tame you can take them to your local vet who will be able to scan them for a microchip and potentially contact the cats owners.
Do you take in stray and feral cats?
Unfortunately not. We are only in a position to help cats that have lived with people previously and who are friendly and social. Sadly our tiny rescue service is not yet equipped to help stray and feral cats who need a lot more than we are able to provide.

Where are you located ?
We are based in Wantirna South but are fortunate enough to have a network of amazing volunteer foster carers who are located all over Melbourne.
