How Fostering Works With Us

Urban Feline Australia is a newly established cat rescue service, run by one passionate individual with the help of friends and amazing volunteer foster carers. We're not part of a big government organization, we don't have a large facility with a  lot of staff and we don't have a lot of resources. Our tiny rescue is a one man operation run from the safety of our own home and as a tiny operation we have decided to specialize in helping "surrenders" which are cats that have been someone's pet previously but for one reason or another their owners are unfortunately no longer able to look after them. We only accept cats that have been desexed, microchipped and vaccinated, who have no serious health issues and who are friendly and social. We do this to try and keep things as simple as we possibly can and make sure that our amazing volunteer foster carers have a smooth and pleasant experience as possible. Occasionally we will take on shelter cats or stray cats but only if we have the right people available to assist. Our primary focus is helping surrenders.

Whenever owners reach out to us needing to rehome their cat, we will take down the cats details and add them to our waiting list. We have a Facebook group for foster carers where we have a live waiting list with photos and details of each cat. so that carers can see who is coming through.  As soon as a suitable foster home becomes available we will contact the owners and arrange for them to surrender the cat into our care to be rehomed. We always aim to match each cat with the right foster environment and we will always contact foster carers and get their approval before arranging for the cat to be surrendered. We do not assign cats at random, only once we have received the foster carers consent.
